Bronx Zoo

One of our recent weekend adventures was a trip to the Bronx Zoo (before the Cobra escaped and started tweeting). It was a surprisingly quick trip on the subway. We went from Wall Street to Wildlife in about 40 minutes. Lyla loves animals so I was excited to see her reactions to the real thing.

Upon entering, we immediately had to choose a path -- Asia or Africa. Africa has Lions? Lions it is.

The lions were pretty far away, but we sat and watched them for awhile. It was a chilly day and we watched them all nestle close to each other to keep warm. What a cute family :)

After passing the lions, we came across a peacock. Lyla tried to make friends but the peacock was totally uninterested in her.

It was still too cold for some of the animals, so they were inside. Some looked a little sad, like this gorilla.

The giraffes were in a small room, but didn't seem to mind. One of them took a particular liking to Lyla.

We took a quick lunch break, a stop in the zoo store, and on we went to the Monkey House (which smelled rancid).

The best part of the Madagascar house was the croc.

At this point of the day, Lyla was more interested in her toy animals than the real thing. But that didn't stop her parents. We still had some real tigers to see.

The real deal. We overheard a tour guide saying that these are mother and daughter tigers.

Comparing tigers

Hmmm...I think I'll stick with my tiger.

The best entertainer of the day was the polar bear. What a ham!

Look at that foot!

This guy wins the award for ugliest animal of the day. Sorry, big guy.
