The day after Christmas -- and the day after one of the most sleep deprived nights since Lyla was born -- we took her to Dr. Matt to get her checked out. His diagnosis -- double ear infection. He told us that she had probably been suffering for some time. As he calls in a prescription to the pharmacy, I'm thinking back to any signs I could have missed. I'm feeling terribly guilty and frazzled when he asks me her date of birth for the pharmacist. 2/28/09, I say. Only problem -- her birthday is 2/23/09. Mark promptly corrects me and I feel even worse. Dr. Matt offers me these words of support -- "Not everyone can be mother of the year." So, what do you think? Did I miss any of the signs of an ear infection? These pictures are from a week earlier.

Despite her sickness, Lyla rallied to play with her new Christmas loot back at home.

Her poor little eyes look so sick.
