O Christmas Tree

Lyla was actually a big help in the Christmas tree department this year. She picked it out, helped decorate it and declared at 8 am this morning "We have to take the decorations off the tree because it's not Christmastime anymore." She then told me that taking the ornaments off was "too hard" for her, so she just sat on the catch and told me how to do it (we won't dwell on that last point in the Christmas memory bank).

It was fun to see the Christmas traditions sinking into her curious mind.  One of her favorite things to do was open the countdown calendar each morning.  My mistake to buy an advent calendar with the smallest openings ever.  Nothing fit in those little boxes except for squinkies, so we have an awful lot of teeny, tiny, rubbery toys lurking in every nook and cranny of our apartment.

A few of her other favorite holiday things:

(1) going through the Christmas cards in the mail each day and looking at the beautiful photos of our friends and family;
(2) taking a single lick of a candy cane and leaving it to stick somewhere (usually a rug or upholstered chair);
(3) watching Christmas movies.  We watched a Charlie Brown Christmas probably a dozen times.  We watched the other ones too -- but nothing compared to Charlie Brown.  She was scared of the policeman in Frosty the Snowman and absolutely petrified on the Abominable Snowman in Rudolph (she is going through a period where everything she watches is too scary).
