Hanging Out with Dora and Diego at CMOM

On Friday, Lyla and I met Dina, Nicolas and my mom at the Children's Museum of Manhattan .  What a great place.  First, they have an entire floor dedicated to Dora and Diego.  You can play ride in Diego's rescue truck, climb in his treehouse, play instruments in Dora's house and cross over rainbow bridge. Lyla screamed when she saw the bigger than life size Dora on the wall. There were lots of tangible exhibits and Lyla got to touch all the animals Diego rescues (spectacled bears!), plant flowers in Dora's garden and, to Lyla's delight, lots of dance opportunities where Dora music was playing.

Nicolas saw the rescue truck as soon as we got off the elevator and he thought that was all there was, so it was pretty hard to get him to actually move into the exhibit room.

An apropos celebration at Dora's house.

Is this party for me?

Nic taking a break in Dora's bedroom.

It was hard to get Nic to leave without "rescuing" an animal of his own.

The next floor we visited had really great hands-on exhibits for both Lyla and Nic. Lyla liked this "peekaboo" wall, where you put your hand down and the person on the other side suddenly appeared.

She got to give herself lots of kisses at the ballet bar.

They have this really cool "lite bright" wall where you can move around the solid lucite pegs and different colors light up.

She didn't totally get the chalkboard. She preferred eating the chalk as opposed to writing with it.

I didn't get pictures of Nic because he was running in a million directions (not really interested in the "baby games"), but he got to dress as a fireman and do a bunch of great arts and crafts. As my mom said, he really knows how to play with "gusto". His face was red as a beet and he was chugging water to stay hydrated :) Lastly, we moved to the block floor, where Nic was in heaven, but, again, Lyla didn't quite get it and preferred to eat the blocks.
