Jinxed

I just finished telling Donna that Lyla had a really healthy winter, when, that night, she developed a fever. It was around 100 when I left for work on Wednesday, but Wednesday afternoon it was 102 and was not coming down with medicine. I rushed home from work to take her to the doctor. In the hours I was gone, her eyes became bloodshot, she started to cough and developed a runny nose. The doctor said that there wasn't anything to treat with antibiotics so I should just keep her comfortable. She slept on my chest for the rest of the evening and seemed to perk up when Mark came home from work. The photo above is the calm before the storm. She woke up in the middle of the night with a fever close to 104. She was shaking and chugging juice, while asking for her blanket. I kept wiping her down with a cool, wet rag and just held her close to me until we both fell back to sleep.  I have to admit, I was getting scared (and thought about calling my mom at 3 in the morning).  I woke up later in the morning to see that she was soaking wet in her sweat and her fever was down. So far, so good today. No fever, just some sick looking eyes and a little cough.  Hopefully my little chick is on the mend.

  1. Pei pa koa is pretty decent cough medicine (from herbal as I remembered), great non alcoholic medicine, some western cough medicine are more effective, but this is non drowsy.
