Weekend Recap

We had a pretty mellow weekend hanging out around the neighborhood. One of my favorite parts of every weekend is Saturday morning breakfast. My two trouble makers sit at the breakfast bar and we talk about our plan for the weekend.

On Saturday, we walked to Soho to do a little shopping at Kate Spade for -- ahem -- someone's birthday. Not for mine actually, but I did end up getting a little something :)  I felt guilty that Lyla was "stuck" in her stroller while we were enjoying the mild weather, so we made a stop at the Scholastic Store to let the little bugger run free.  I think I've mentioned that she is in love with dogs...so you can imagine her delight when she saw Clifford the Big Red dog in all his big red glory.  She hugged that thing so hard he fell right down to the floor.

Mark and I walked home with fingers crossed that she would fall asleep so we could sit down to a civilized lunch, but no such luck.  So we headed back to Moomah for a kid-friendly atmosphere.  We had yummy food and awesome Arnold Palmer's while we watched Lyla play her game du jour "Where'd he go?"

Quesadillas, pizza bagels and Arnold Palmers make mommy happy.

Where'd he go?

Mark and I tag team our parenting efforts on Sunday -- I go to the gym in the morning, while Mark gives Lyla breakfast and gets her dressed. After I get home and shower, Mark goes to play basketball and we reconvene in the afternoon. While Mark was at basketball, Lyla and I went over to Washington Market Park. It was still a little chilly but it felt so good to be outside. We definitely have Spring fever.

Sunday night we watched the Academy Awards.  The Oscars will forever remind me of the night before Lyla was born.  We were home getting ready to leave for the hospital with the red carpet show on television.  I thought the night in the hospital would fly by because I could lay in bed watching the Oscars.  Here's to naive, wishful thinking.  This year, Mark and I filled out competing ballots.  I fell asleep well before the end of the show, but when I woke up in the morning, I looked over at Mark's nightstand and found that he continued to dutifully keep score after I fell asleep.  He kicked my butt, but at least I can beat him at Words With Friends.  My favorite speech of the night was Luke Matheny, who won for Best Digital Short.  He thanked his mom, who also did craft services for the 18 minute movie.

I also spent some time thinking about a new blog design.  Mark says I change it too much and that I would be terrible at branding.  I say it's my blog and I'll do what I want to. I'm thinking something Spring-ey...
