"We only hear laughs."

Apartment living can be really hard when you have young children. Our upstairs neighbors have a son that is about one month older than Lyla and our next-door neighbors have a son that is three months younger than Lyla. When we were all trying to get our babies to sleep through the night, they would sometimes wake each other up, to the frustration of everyone involved. Since they are all a bit older now, we really don't hear them anymore. Yesterday, I ran into our upstairs neighbors. We swapped the usual anecdotes about our kids and then got to talking about our close quarters. They explained that their son likes to bang his toys on the floor as loud as he possibly can and asked if it bothered us. Nope -- we really have never noticed it. In response, I asked whether they can hear Lyla crying (sometimes if she wakes up in the middle of the night, we just let her cry...sorry Grandma). In response, they said "no, we only hear laughs." That was music to my ears.
